Adult Learners Festival 2011

7-10th March 2011

This was the Partnership’s first hosting of an Adult Learners’ Festival.  Due to the Festival’s phenomenal success, we intend to make this an annual event and will be encouraging participation to all organisations in Dublin 15.

The Festival gave people an opportunity to find out new information on a range of programmes from job seeking through laughter yoga to beauty therapy.  There were 19 information stands from organisations and agencies in the area, and we were delighted to have the support of celebrities such as Sean Gallagher, Karl Henry and Jane Downes.

We offered workshops and information on health related matters from giving up smoking to laughter therapy, and we invited everyone in the community to drop in and avail of all the free services from 10am to 2pm daily. We provided a large number of demonstrations in Hair, Beauty, Reflexology, Tai Chi and Acupuncture.  We also gave taster workshops in Zumba Fitness and Yoga Laughter Therapy.

Of particularly importance to job seekers were the workshops in Career Transition, Career Guidance, CV Doctor, Social Media and Learning Styles to mention but a few. Throughout the festival, as well as the information stands, we had information from the Marie Keating Cancer Foundation, the Local Employment Service, Money Advice Bureau,  BAPtec Computer Training Centre, FÁS, the Department of Social Protection, Local Community Drugs Team, the Institute of Technology Blanchardstown and Blanchardstown Community Training Centre.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who helped in making our event so successful. We also want to thank the AONTAS staff for their support, and of course a special thanks to the Director, Berni Brady, for officially closing the Festival after a hectic week.
