BASE Enterprise Centre

The BASE Enterprise Centre Limited was established in 1995 to build a purpose designed enterprise centre in Mulhuddart serving the Greater Blanchardstown area. The Centre currently provides incubator units for start-up enterprises in their first three years but a more substantial second phase of 22,000 square feet will be opened in early 2004. The Centre took in its first resident company in March 1999. By December 2002, 24 companies had been established through BASE. The Centre is, and has remained full since December 2000. In 2002 16 companies operated through BASE employing 42 people. BASE itself employed 12 staff and managed 3 Full-time Job Initiative participants. A total of 57 people were therefore employed by or in the centre in 2002, a very high contribution to the local economic activity.

BASE is a unique social enterprise and has proven one of the most successful such ventures in Ireland. BASE has also been awarded the Excellence Through People Award recognising the quality of staff service and commitment to their clients.

BASE Services

BASE strives to provide the highest quality of service to its clients, patrons and community in all activities run. In general BASE provides the following core services:

Incubator units for start-up businesses.

The resident companies in the specified incubator units are given an annual license, which can be renewed for up to 3 years, after which the companies are expected to relocate in the mainstream property market. The Centre also operates a stepped-license fee policy, offering a low license fee in year one, increasing by approximately 33% in year two and a similar percentage increase in year three. BASE resident companies have access to a range of services; including meeting room facilities, fax, photocopying, reception, post sorting and delivery facilities, security, as well as the backup of the BASE staff team.

Enterprise units for Growth Phase companies.

BASE can offer companies office units of just under 400 square feet or just over 1,500 square feet, and light industrial units of just over 1,500 square feet. Usually these resident companies are several years up and running and have growth potential. Similar to other BASE resident companies they have access to the full range of supports available from the BASE staff team.

BASE has 3 main social objectives:

  • To foster an Entrepreneurial culture in Dublin 15.
  • To actively support the local development process, especially in Mulhuddart/Tyrellstown.
  • To encourage, progress and empower staff members and promote social inclusion.
