Jigsaw 15
In September 2011, Dublin 15 was selecet as a Jigsaw project by Headstrong. In these austere times, this was something of a coup. The application for Jigsaw status was by CAP 15.
Capacity Access Participation 15 (CAP15) originated from work which took place in the Corduff area of Blanchardstown over the last fifteen years. This included a youth listening survey which was carried out by Corduff Community Development Project (CDP) and Blanchardstown Youth Service (BYS). This established a new way to engage young people in identifying issues that affect them and in recommending solutions to decision makers.
In 2002 and as part of the establishment of the RAPID programme in Blanchardstown, extensive community consultation processes took place in the four designated local areas of Mulhuddart, Corduff, Mountview and Blakestown. Gaps in youth service provision and family supports, particularly in the Corduff and Mulhuddart areas were identified. Work to address these gaps took place through collaborative approaches which included key stakeholders such as Blanchardstown Youth Service, Barnardos, Fingal County Council, CDPs, local schools, RAPID, Blanchardstown Area Partnership, the HSE and the Local Drugs Task Force. This resulted in the establishment of projects such as the Corduff/Mulhuddart Springboard, HSE Wellview family support project, Blakestown Mountview Youth Initiative and the expansion of projects such as the Neighbourhood Youth Project.
In tandem, the HSE began to respond to severe gaps in primary care, through the establishment of a new primary care centre in Hartstown. Primary care teams were established across Dublin 15 and all 12 teams in the area are now established.
A health needs analysis “Corduff’s Right to Care” was carried out in Corduff in 2007. One of the priority recommendations that emerged from this analysis was the need to develop an adolescent friendly health service which included adolescent counselling. The Corduff Mulhuddart Youth Mental Health Group, composed of key stakeholders was established to progress this recommendation. This group was composed of a range of HSE representatives, local Community Development Projects, a community based psychotherapy and family therapy service (Genesis), Blanchardstown Youth Service and other key leaders.
The group has worked closely with Headstrong to become informed of evidence-based practice and to learn from the experience of other areas across the country that are enacting wrap around services. Three members of the group have participated in the Headstrong Learning Network (representatives of HSE, Genesis and BYS). Participation in the Headstrong Learning Network, identified the need to expand the catchment area.
We are now in the process of developing the Jigsaw programme, more details of which will be available in early 2012. For further information please contact Felix Gallagher.
